About the Role
To undertake research investigations in collaboration with and under the supervision of Prof Gareth Sanger in order to realise the objectives and development of the research programme into 'Mechanisms and treatment of nausea'. This will focus predominantly on functional studies with human gastrointestinal tissues, investigating the effects of therapeutic electrical stimulation together with the effects of different 'nauseagenic' agents on human stomach functions. It will require the development of innovative techniques in addition to active participation in preparing studies for publications.
About You
* The successful candidate will work to fulfil the aims of the research grant which funds this study.
* The candidate should have the relevant checks and experience required to obtain written consent from patients undergoing surgery for the use of their 'waste' surgical tissue, prior to surgery.
* Additional understanding and experience in maintaining all documentation needed under the relevant Human Tissue Act.
* The successful candidate will have a good understanding of pharmacology, experience of human tissue bath pharmacology, and possess a PhD with a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) is a significant part of Queen Mary University of London. It is organized into 6 separate Institutes, with the Blizard Institute being one of the largest, employing around 400 staff, with a financial turnover of approximately £60 million per year and research expenditure exceeding £12 million annually.
The Institute is divided into 6 Centres, which, while aligned with the Institute's strategic plan, also have specific objectives and requirements. This position is within the Centre for Neuroscience Surgery & Trauma at the Blizard Institute.
