Senior Safety, Health and Environmental Manager
Up to £75k plus package including car or car allowance.
Location: North East of England. The role is site‑based across multiple project sites in Darlington, Middlesborough and Stockton on Tees, with travel required to the Gateshead office. Flexible to work from home when not on site or in the office.
We are working with a sector‑leading construction company to recruit a Senior Safety, Health and Environmental Manager to join their team in the North East region. The Senior SHE Manager will be accountable for ensuring successful safety, health and environmental management across multiple projects within the region and provide clear feedback on performance. You will advise project teams on compliance with both company policy and legislation requirements, especially high‑risk activities, and audit project teams on their adherence. You will have line‑management responsibility for a team of 3.
Key Responsibilities
* Monitor, advise, support, enforce and report on health, safety and environmental standards.
* Ensure project teams are equipped to manage SHE risks and opportunities effectively.
* Conduct audits, site visits and investigations to guarantee compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
* Analyse SHE performance data and provide insights to drive continuous improvement.
* Collaborate with internal teams (including pre‑construction) and external stakeholders (including supply chain partners) to share best practices and foster a proactive safety culture.
* Ensure all accidents and incidents are responded to promptly, with thorough internal and statutory notifications detailing root causes and corrective actions.
Essential Criteria
* Previous experience in the construction sector.
* Line‑management experience.
* Level 3 qualification in Occupational Safety & Health.
* TechIOSH membership and relevant SHE certifications (e.g., CSCS, IEMA, SEATS, SMSTS).
* Nebosh general certificate.
* Valid driving licence.
* Proven experience in managing SHE management systems, audits and performance.
* Strong communication and influencing skills.
* Ability to simplify complex SHE topics for diverse audiences.
