Technology in a school is never just about technology.
It is the quiet moment before a lesson starts, when a teacher logs in and everything simply works. It is a student opening their device and getting straight to learning. It is the difference between disruption and momentum.
Crem Recruitment is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a forward-thinking, values-led multi-academy trust in Suffolk, which is looking to appoint an IT Technician to join their Central IT Team, based in Ipswich.
This is a permanent, full-time position, 37 hours per week, offering a salary of £28,000 to £30,000.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on, visible role within a busy school environment. You will be part of a friendly and supportive IT team, working closely with an experienced Senior IT Technician and IT Operations Manager.
The team is ten strong across the trust, with two colleagues based on site in Ipswich. It is collaborative, approachable and built around delivering a responsive, high-quality service to staff and students.
The Role
You will provide first-line technical support within a Service Desk environment, ensuring that hardware, software and network issues are logged, managed and resolved within agreed service levels.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing professional first-line advisory and diagnostic support
• Setting up and supporting 1-to-1 devices for students and staff
• Building and configuring PCs, laptops, tablets and iPads

• Escalating issues appropriately while owning them through to resolution
• Assisting with project work during school closures, including device rollouts and system upgrades
• Maintaining IT assets, printers and general classroom technology
About You
This role would suit someone early in their IT career who already has some hands-on experience in a technical support environment.
You might be a junior IT Technician, a 1st Line Support Engineer or someone who has completed an apprenticeship and is ready for the next step.
You will bring:
• Practical experience in an IT support or helpdesk role
• Exposure to Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory
• Basic networking knowledge
• Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
• The ability to communicate clearly with non-technical staff and students
• A calm, proactive approach and willingness to learn
A genuine interest in developing your IT career within an education setting is essential. The trust places strong emphasis on professional development and offers opportunities to grow within a stable and supportive environment.
Working Pattern and Benefits
• 37 hours per week
• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
• Flexibility around working hours aligned to school operations
• Access to employee benefits schemes and local government pension
This is a role where your work has a visible impact every single day. When systems run smoothly, learning runs smoothly.
If you are looking for a supportive team, meaningful work and the chance to develop your IT career in a values-driven organisation, we would love to hear from you.
