Principal Design Engineer - Advanced Mechanical Systems
Location: Surrey (Hybrid working available)

Overview:
iO Associates have partnered with a specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead the development of complex mechanical systems across aerospace, defence, and high-performance technology sectors. This is a senior technical leadership role offering autonomy, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to shape design capability within a high-talent team.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead 3D CAD design from concept through to detailed development
* Review and approve technical drawings and design schemes
* Collaborate with structural and fluids analysts to resolve design challenges
* Conduct internal and external design reviews
* Support the Chief Engineer and contribute to technical governance
* Mentor and coach junior engineers, promoting best practice
What You'll Bring:
* Expert-level experience in mechanical design and CAD (e.g. Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar)
* Strong understanding of design for manufacture, assembly, and performance
* Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
* Proven ability to lead projects and mentor others
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
