Role: SEN Teaching Assistant
Additional Details: BSL (British Sign Language) Is essential to be considered for this role as you will be supporting Deaf Children.
Rate of pay: £425 - £500 Dependent on experience
Location: Birmingham, Northfield
**About the role**
Connex Education is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4–11 in a mainstream primary school. In this role, you will work closely with class teachers and specialist staff to support deaf and hearing-impaired children, using BSL to help them access the curriculum and fully engage in school life. You will assist with adapting learning materials, encouraging social interaction, and promoting independence, confidence, and positive behaviour. Your support will play a key role in fostering an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
**About the school**
This Birmingham-based specialist primary school supports profoundly deaf children aged 2–11 in a sign-bilingual, bi-cultural environment where British Sign Language and spoken/written English are equally valued. Pupils learn in small groups led by Teachers of the Deaf and supported by deaf staff who act as cultural and linguistic role models. The school promotes academic, social, and emotional growth through a personalised approach, enriched with STEM, forest school, creative arts, and a strong rights-respecting ethos. Children are encouraged to become confident communicators, proud of their identity, and well-prepared for life in both deaf and hearing communities.

**Role Requirements**
* Minimum Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or Equivalent Level 2 UK Educational qualification is required.
* Minimum Level 2 BSL (British Sign Language)
* Makaton would be beneficial
* Previous experience working in Educational is essential.
* A commitment to promoting equality and diversity in the classroom

* Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education.
