About the Role

LMUK Ampthill are looking for students studying A Level in Mathematics, Science or Technology, or Students undertaking a Diploma or Extended Diploma in Engineering and are looking for an opportunity to undertake a 2 year Lockheed Martin Internal Apprenticeship in Project Engineering.

The apprenticeship will entail continued study at college, which will lead to the completion of the following qualification:

1. HNC completed at end of second year (via day release)
Further qualifications are fully encouraged by LMUK Ampthill post apprenticeship, with a robust mentoring programme firmly established on site. Professional accreditation is also proactively encouraged, with mentoring, support and guidance provided.

On-site training at LMUK Ampthill will see the individual embedded into Project Engineering Team to allow the full design lifecycle to be understood and supported. This will align the individual to the opportunity of a post apprenticeship career within the Project Engineering arena.

Work place deployments could consist of (but not limited to) the following Business Areas:
2. Project Engineering Team
3. Configuration management
4. Digital Engineering
5. Product Certification
6. DRACAS
7. Reliability
8. Quality
Typical duties could include:
9. Support Lead Engineer with completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility
10. Support product design reviews for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and related specifications
11. Apply processes to engineering tools and ensure engineering tools are fully utilised
12. Ensuring that configuration management of designs are maintained
13. Capturing design updates and progressing through the change process
14. Help resolve engineering problems
In addition to these traditional duties, the role is expected to evolve to incorporate digital transformation, development of digital twins, digital engineering, and model-based systems engineering. This implies that the apprentice will likely be involved in:
1. Digital Transformation: Contributing to the digital transformation initiatives of the company, which may involve modernising processes, adopting new technologies, or improving digital capabilities.
2. Development of Digital Twin: Assisting in the creation and maintenance of digital replicas of physical products or systems, which can be used for simulation, testing, and optimisation.
3. Digital Engineering: Utilising digital tools and methodologies to design, analyse, and manage engineering projects, potentially including the use of virtual reality, augmented reality, or other advanced digital technologies.
4. Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE): Employing graphical models to represent, specify, analyse, verify, and validate systems, which can improve communication, collaboration, and efficiency across the engineering lifecycle.
These additional responsibilities reflect the growing importance of digital technologies in modern engineering practices and Lockheed Martin's commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements.

Internal Apprenticeship Content: Two year day release at college to gain HNC, supported by business area deployment in various departments to obtain a broad spectrum of experience.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

15. A-Levels in relevant subject area (. Mathematics, Science, Technology) or Engineering Level 3 (or BTEC equivalent. diploma or extended diploma).
16. IT proficient (ideally Microsoft Office).
17. A strong communicator, both written and verbal.
18. Attention to detail.
19. Ability to understand processes and follow.
20. Ability to support and teach others.
Desired skills, qualifications and experience:
21. Engineering experience through education, this includes hands-on workshop experience through school, college, or personal projects.
22. Familiarity with British and International Standards.
23. Awareness of Product Development Lifecycle.
24. Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) Tools through education.Ability to create and modify 3D models and assembliesCompetence in producing technical drawings to BS 8888 standards
25. Product Development Lifecycle awareness, understanding of concept, design, prototyping, testing, and production phases.
26. Systems Engineering exposure, knowledge of SysML and systems thinking principles.Appreciation of how complex systems are designed, integrated, and verified, especially with regards to SysML
