Job Description:
We are recruiting a Specialist Mechanical Process Technician for our Desalination plant at Thames Gateway Water Treatment Works. The role supports the operation of the water treatment process and involves working within multiple disciplined teams following a maintenance plan, installation projects, electrical fault finding, project commissioning, and emergency repairs.
Although advertised as a mechanical technician, dual-skilled workers in mechanical and electrical fields are advantageous.
Responsibilities include:
* Working on water treatment stages and mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, filtration plants, chemical dosing equipment, air compressors, pneumatic plants, and sampling equipment.
* Investigating plant failures and performing repairs to prevent process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults during incidents.
* Conducting scheduled maintenance on mechanical equipment.
* Providing technical advice and support to the team and contractors, including training trainees.
* Participating in a 24/7 standby rota after training and assessment.
* Undertaking health and safety checks, escalating concerns, and ensuring safety protocols.
Base Location: Thames Gateway - Essex - IG11 0AD.
Working hours: 38 hours/week plus standby rota with additional pay. A company van is provided.
Candidate requirements:
* Experience with large industrial plants and mechanical systems.
* BNC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or City & Guilds level 3 in mechanical engineering.
* Mechanical maintenance NVQ 2/3 is beneficial but not essential.
* Previous mechanical apprenticeship experience.
* Physical capability to work in confined spaces with breathing apparatus.
* Knowledge of health and safety issues.
* Valid UK driving license.

* Salary up to £43,000, with standby and overtime pay.
