About The Job
The Know Your Neighbourhood Project (KYN) is to promote community support and accessibility for people who have a learning disability.
We are looking for 1 person with learning disabilities to become a Peer Support Worker for the Know Your Neighbourhood project in South Tyneside.
Hours of work
1 day (7.5 hours) per week.
The job will last until 31st March 2026.
What You Will Do
You and your team will help local people who have a learning disability, and autistic people.
You and your team will be helping people who have asked for some help.
These are some of the ways you might help each person:
* Asking them about what help they need
* Helping them to think about their hopes and dreams
* Helping them to think what they are good at
* Helping them to find out what can help them to have a good life
* Helping them to make a plan
* Helping them to try new activities and visit new places in South Tyneside
* Helping people to set up peer support groups or activities
* Delivering training and workshops with the community Connectors to help people learn new skills and information
* Helping people to have their voice heard about things that are important to them
What Kind Of Person We Are Looking For
* You must have personal experience of having a learning disability or being autistic.
* You must be interested in helping people to have a better life
* You must be good at listening
* You must be able to talk to lots of different people.
* You must be able to think of good ideas about how people can live a happy and healthy life, making the most of where they live
* You will understand how to work with people and see the things they are good at.
* You must believe in equal opportunities for everyone.
* You can travel around South Tyneside and get to the places we run drop ins.
* You can have support if you need it.
* You will be good at working with others
* You live in South Tyneside or know South Tyneside well.
It Would Be Good If
* You know how to use a phone, computer or both.
* You can have support if you need it
* You can travel around Gateshead and know the area.
* You can have support if you need it
* You know how to use social media, WhatsApp, Zoom or Microsoft Teams
* We can give you support with IT
