As a Pathology Support Worker in the Pathology Department, you will contribute to the provision of the clinical laboratory service as part of a team of Biomedical Scientists and support workers, performing work activities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. The post holder will follow a competency training programme and, under the guidance of qualified staff, perform a range of scientific procedures on biological samples that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and other pathological processes.
After suitable training and competence assessment, you will use practical skills to perform tasks associated with the pre-analytical preparation of specimens and the analysis of samples using a range of laboratory equipment to conduct routine departmental procedures/tests.

Responsibilities
* Perform a range of scientific procedures on biological samples under supervision to support diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases.
* Work within a team of Biomedical Scientists and support staff, following Standard Operating Procedures.
* Participate in a competency training programme and complete competence assessments as required.
* Handle pre-analytical activities, including specimen preparation and processing, using appropriate laboratory equipment to support routine departmental procedures/tests.
Requirements and Additional Information
* References: All references from current and previous employers will be sought and must cover a minimum of 3 years of employment. When completing the reference section of the application form, provide the address, telephone number and work email address for current/previous line managers covering at least 3 years, ideally from two separate employers.
* Payment of DBS: It is a requirement that successful applicants pay for their DBS certificate if a check is required, with deductions from monthly pay over a maximum of three months. It is also a requirement to be registered with the DBS update service if a DBS is required.
* Pay and terms: New entrants to the NHS will be appointed at the minimum of the pay scale in line with Terms & Conditions.
