Role Description Furness Education Trust is a multi-academy trust based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria serving the Furness community, located near the centre of the historic shipbuilding town, we are close to the southern boundary of the Lake District National Park, making this an ideal location for anyone wishing to work in The Lake District. Currently comprised of seven schools including Furness Academy, Walney School and five primary schools, the Trust aims to develop best practice by collaborating and working together to give the best of everything to every child. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Barrow-In-Furness for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO will manage the Trust's financial strategy, monitor budgets and financial planning, and oversee the preparation of accurate financial reports and statements. The CFO will be responsible for the financial development and sustainability of Furness Education Trust and for the financial probity of the whole organisation. They will be responsible for providing the leadership and management of the Trust’s finance, Catering and IT functions, enabling the Trust to work effectively towards its aims. The CFO will support the CEO in their role as the Trust’s accounting officer.
Qualifications
Proficiency in Financial Planning, budgeting, and fiscal strategy development
Strong expertise in preparing and analyzing Financial Statements and Financial Reporting
Demonstrated experience in general Finance principles and operations
Knowledge of statutory and regulatory accountability frameworks, relevant to the role, including the Academy Trust Handbook, Charity Commission Guidance, etc
Sound understanding of school finances and financial management
Exceptional Analytical Skills to support data-driven decision-making
Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills
In-depth knowledge of financial compliance and regulatory requirements
Relevant professional qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CIMA
