Switchboard Operator Contract: Healthcare Location: Orpington, BR6 8ND Hours of work: 30 Working Pattern: Monday - Sunday (06:00 - 14:00) and (14:00 - 22:00) - 8 hr shifts with 30 minute unpaid break on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern. Additional £2 per hour London Allowance. Contract Type: Permanent Hourly Rate: £12.71 The Switchboard within the hospital is a key link between the public, medical staff, and the Healthcare Trust, providing an efficient and responsive service. The role requires a courteous and professional approach at all times while on Trust premises. Switchboard staff must undertake all necessary duties to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. All work must be carried out in line with health, safety, security, Company, and Trust policies and procedures. The post holder may be exposed to sensitive or challenging circumstances. The Role Answer incoming calls and face-to-face queries promptly, providing a polite and professional service Assist callers and visitors in identifying the correct department and connect or direct them accordingly Operate internal and external bleep and radio paging systems, including testing and issuing equipment as required Maintain accurate and up-to-date contact lists, bleep numbers, and on-call information Issue and recover ID cards, keys, and other access items as required Ensure calls and tasks are correctly logged and directed to the appropriate person or department Follow emergency procedures in line with Trust protocols (e.g. fire, major incidents, cardiac arrests) Maintain confidentiality, data protection standards, and professionalism at all times while on Trust premises About You We are looking for a confident, calm, and professional individual with excellent communication skills, who is willing to learn and committed to delivering a high-quality service. While previous experience in a switchboard or communications role would be advantageous, it is not essential.
