Job overview

Ward C805 is a Diamond Accredited 30 bedded Cardiology ward located on level 8 of the Bristol Heart Institute. The ward also has 4 additional boarding beds which are used when there is a high demand for hospital services.

With a team of Cardiologists whose specialities cover interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology and structural/congenital heart disease, we provide a varied range of services that look after patients with a variety of cardiac pathologies.

We are a multi-disciplinary team and as well as a team of doctors and nurses, we are supported by our Specialist Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists and Discharge Team to deliver patient care.

Our aim is to provide the highest standard of care and offer patents the support and reassurance needed throughout their admission.

We are looking for an individual who is eager to learn, has a kind and caring attitude towards patients, families & colleagues and who will be a positive team member.

Please note, this role does not currently meet the salary requirement for certificate of sponsorship. From the 9th April 2025, the minimum salary required for a Skilled Worker visa became £25,000 per year. While this role may be offered at a higher point on the pay scale depending on relevant NHS experience, most new starters are appointed at the bottom of the band, which does not meet the new salary threshold.


Main duties of the job

No two days are the same as a Healthcare Support Worker. You’ll support patients through their treatment, sharing their experiences and making a real difference in their healthcare journey.

You’ll be working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment where communication is vital – nowhere else will a compassionate nature have such an impact.

The successful candidate will need good communication skills, demonstrating politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in providing compassionate care for patients and their relatives.

Practice safe standards following trust guidance to provide effective, holistic patient care, including awareness of normal ranges of vital signs and supporting patients through the cardiology pathway.

Qualifications and Training


Essential criteria

* One of the following: Level 3 (SCQF – 6): - City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma, Experience equivalent to the above qualifications
* Level 2 Functional skills in English and Math’s, or equivalent
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (that maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker) or equivalent experience


Skills and Abilities


Essential criteria

* Effective communication skills, verbally and written
* Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
* Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures
* Committed to providing high quality patient care
* Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
* IT skills, basic word, Email, keyboard skills, data collection
* Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training within given time frames
* Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit as the need arises
* Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner/attitude
* Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the health care setting
* Able to meet the physical and educational demands of the role

* Be able to work as a member of a team
* Experience of time management and prioritising work
