Main duties of the job
You will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care that prioritises safety, wellbeing, and independence. Working under the guidance of Registered Nurses, you will undertake delegated clinical responsibilities such as PEG feeding, medication administration, and health monitoring. Additionally, you will play a vital role in emergency response, emotional support, and maintaining continuity of care through effective communication with families, colleagues, and external professionals.

Job responsibilities
Leadership and ManagementTo provide clinical supervision to unqualified members of the nursing team as required.To work with teams across Seashell to ensure successful ways of working so that the health teams reach into school, college and care is appropriately accessible with professional programs of care and treatment implemented as prescribed to deliver optimum health and wellbeing.To work collaboratively and in conjunction with other Local Authority and health colleagues to achieve the best outcomes for children, young adults and their families.To communicate highly effectively, adapting style to diversity of audience, demonstrating excellence in both written and verbal skills, contributing to internal and external meetings as required and supporting effective multi-disciplinary working.To undertake appropriate clinical audit as part of a quality improvement and compliance requirement as directed by the registered manager based on service needs.Support the lead nurse as required to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services.Practice and CareEnabling high standards of the nursing service delivery across Seashell:To provide specialist operational care, support and advice relating to children and young adults with complex health needs, working flexibly in meeting the needs of the service and individual students.To ensure that our children and young adults are supported to receive the correct medication/treatment through the course of an academic day.To work as part of a multi-disciplinary nursing and therapeutic team, responsible to the lead nurse and head of health and wellbeingEnsure the formulation, implementation and monitoring of assessments and interventions for children, young adults and families as appropriate to identified need.Ensure integrated services for children, young people and families through effective information sharing and collaborative workingEnsure that the views of children, young adults and their families are incorporated into the development and review of service provision.Effectively communicate complex information to a wide range of colleagues, service users and other stakeholdersTo deal with sensitive and confidential information relating to staff or service issues appropriately.To provide consultation and training to all staff within the Trust around supporting children and young adults with complex health needsTo chair multi-agency health planning meetings for children and young adults where appropriate.To produce reports and to undertake reviews, assessments and all other related activities as required.To demonstrate a professional and ethical value base, as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Standards and Practice and Behaviours for Nurses.Service DevelopmentTo understand and be proactive within the attainment of CQC regulatory standards.To formally audit outcomes and produce evidence via KPIs.Participate in supervision sessions, team meetings and training programs in accordance with Seashell Trust policies and proceduresAct as a resource and facilitator to develop competence and confidence within the Seashell workforce in relation to children, young people with complex needs and act as a trainer as appropriate.Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the nursing service as part of the wider Trusts health team and maintain exceptional standards by participation in working groups and developing expertiseBe innovative and creative to enhance the efficacy of the service and explore clinical options in care.Attend conferences and training, feedback to the service and help in developing any subsequent changes to practice.Maintain current knowledge of national and professional guidance. Ensure new innovations are adopted in line with requirements.Risk ManagementTo contribute to risk assessment and management for individual children and young people and to provide advice on the health and well-being aspects of their risk assessment and management to other professions.Ensure risk assessments are of a consistently high quality.Support the implementation of systems, control processes and risk management arrangements to support monitoring of compliance with clinical governance standardsPromote relevant risk awareness across the trust in relation to health.
Person Specification
Experience
* Strong interest within the field of special educational needs
* Demonstrable experience of team working and collaborative decision making
* Experience of the nursing process of assessment, planning, delivery and review
* Experience in supporting children and young adults who display behaviours of concern
Qualifications
* 1st Level Nurse with NMC registration
* Degree in Nursing/Healthcare related subject
Knowledge and skills
* Knowledge of Child and Adolescent Development
* Knowledge of national, local strategies pertaining to children and young people with SEND needs
* Detailed knowledge of Safeguarding procedures for children and adults
* Knowledge of other relevant legislation, MCA, etc
* Proactive Health promotion abilities and knowledge
* Effective MDT/Multi-service/agency working
* Able to prioritise work on own initiative; willingness to work flexibly in meeting the needs of students and the organisation
* Able to handle sensitive situations, including conflict resolution skills
* Ability to co-ordinate and deliver input to training and professional development of colleagues across the Trust
* Experience of working with child and young adults with complex needs/disabilities, including severe communication difficulties and associated complex disorders
