We are seeking an experienced Senior Customer Network Engineer to join our team, focusing on delivering large-scale, complex managed solutions to our customers. In this critical role, you will leverage your deep expertise to deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing network solutions.
We’re rapidly expanding our fibre rollout, building on our existing, extensive national network footprint of owned and operated dark fibre and fixed wireless. We’re operating at the cutting edge of full-fibre network infrastructure technology and architecture. Innovating in end-to-end, shovel-to-packet, automation to create ground breaking customer experiences, whilst embedding software defined architecture and NFV deep into our build.
We’re expanding on our solid foundation to create an unrivalled, all-star network team.
Remote working is available and fully supported with at least 3 days per week in Manchester HQ as required.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary technical authority on customer network implementation projects, ensuring technical deliverables meet design specifications, timelines, and quality standards
* Collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, and other technical teams
* Lead the hands-on configuration, installation, and deployment of network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, access points) for customer projects
* Implement robust, scalable network LAN, WLAN, WAN, and Security solutions tailored to customer requirements
* Implement and troubleshoot various WAN technologies, including MPLS, SD-WAN, site-to-site VPNs, and other Internet-based connectivity solutions
* Serve as an escalation point for the Customer Network Provisioning Team, providing expert-level guidance and ensuring resolution of any issues in a timely manner
* Maintain comprehensive network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures
* Participate in project meetings and provide technical updates
* Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior customer network engineers
* Other duties as required by your line manager
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
* Proven track record in implementing, and supporting complex network environments, ideally within an MSP or Enterprise environment
* Expert-level networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching technologies, and network security principles
* Advanced practical experience with Fortinet Fortigate firewalls, including configuration, policy management, VPNs, UTM features, and Fortinet SD-WAN and SASE
* Strong knowledge of complex WAN technologies, including SD-WAN, MPLS, VPNs, and other connectivity solutions
* Demonstrable hands-on experience deploying and managing Juniper Mist wireless and wired solutions
* Experience in successfully delivering technical aspects of network projects from conception to implementation and handover
* Ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation
* Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, colleagues, and vendors at all levels
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent organizational and time management skills
Desired
* JNCIP, FCP/FCX, CCNP, Juniper Mist certification
* A degree in computer networking, science, engineering or related field
* Proficiency in network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) is highly desirable
* Experience with network concepts within major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc)
* Familiarity with other security concepts and technologies (e.g., NAC, IDS/IPS, SIEM integration, ZTNA)
* Understanding of or certification in ITIL principles
* Experience with industry-standard network monitoring and management platforms
