Your Mission:
As a Principal Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of our products. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
* Develop, implement, and maintain the Project Safety Management System within a Systems Engineering framework.
* Produce and manage Project Safety Management Plans & Justification Plans.
* Lead hazard and risk identification, management, and assessment activities using modern analysis techniques like STAMP & STPA.
* Influence the construction and delivery of the Project Safety Case, including Safety Case reports throughout the project lifecycle.
* Conduct peer reviews and assurance tasks to validate the adequacy of the Safety Case and supporting documentation.
* Mentor junior members of the Product Safety team.
* Understand and apply wider Safety Case, Quality, and HS&E Management System documentation.
Your Skills and Experiences:
Essential:
* STEM Degree or equivalent qualification.
* Awareness of environmental challenges affecting product safety.
* Experience with traditional safety analysis techniques (FMEA, HAZOP, FTA, etc.).
* Proven ability to compile and deliver Safety Case Reports and supporting documentation.
* Experience in developing and working within a Projects Safety Management System.
* Strong ability to interpret technical data and produce clear, logical safety arguments.
Desirable:
* Professional Chartership or working towards it.
* Knowledge of submarine lifecycle phases: design, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and testing.
* Experience with modern safety analysis techniques (STAMP, STPA, FRAM, etc.).
* Familiarity with System Engineering International Standards in a safety engineering context.
* Previous experience leading meetings and working groups.

About the Safety & Environmental Team:
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Project Product Safety Management System and Product Safety Cases for the SSNA project. You will guide others in resolving complex project-related issues from a Product Safety perspective. We also offer relocation support packages for eligible candidates across all Submarines roles.
