Main areas of responsibilities:
External Maintenance – Grounds
* To assist with the execution of his duties including grass cutting, pitch preparation and the general outdoor maintenance of the School
* Participate in the operation of a preventative planned maintenance programme and to carry out routine inspections of the premises and grounds to assess for minor work or repairs required to be carried out to maintain safe and satisfactory conditions
* Maintain cleanliness and general tidiness of all external hard areas; empty litter bins on a daily basis
* Clean and clear all drains and gullies to ensure effective and healthy operation
* Inspect outside fabric of School, report/repair defects as appropriate. Carry out general building repairs, maintenance, or improvements
* Inspect all fences, gates, walls, steps, lights, etc. Report/repair defects as appropriate
* Keep entrance to the School clean and clear of obstructions at all times
* Clear leaves, snow, ice, moss and detritus as appropriate, including treatment of surfaces with salt, etc
* Inspect all outside areas for dangerous materials and remove – including external emergency clean of spillages
Security
* To assist with car park duties, either on the crossing by the Sports Hall or patrolling the car park itself
* Challenge any unauthorised persons on School premises, escort off site if safe to do so (calling for assistance if required) and report incident to the Estates Manager and/or Head
* Assist the Estates Team to ensure the security of the School
* To help maintain the School vehicles (weekly checks, cleaning) ensuring they are fit for purpose.
* Report to the Estates Manager, in the event of an emergency, e.g. fire, flood, break-in, vandalism and accident. To act as directed
* Support the opening and closing of the School premises including gates, doors, windows, fire exits, etc, for the purpose of School use, lettings, out of School hours functions, maintenance and emergency services.
* Assist the Estates Team in enabling access and egress to the School in the event of snow, flooding or other emergency situations
Internal Maintenance
* Support day to day routine estates management including completion of necessary documentation and safety checks
* Participate in the operation of a preventative planned maintenance programme and to carry out routine inspections of the buildings, fixtures and fittings to assess for minor work or repairs required to be carried out to maintain safe and satisfactory conditions
* To assist in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the heating and boiler systems and maintain appropriate records
* Report all defects which require specialist repair to the Estates Manager
* Inspect electrical fittings and report defects as required. Arrange annual PAT testing of equipment
* Replace lamps and domestic fuses as required
* Regularly inspect plumbing and report/repair defects as appropriate Synchronise clocks, time switches, School bells, etc, as required
* Undertake minor repairs to fixtures and fittings including desks, tables and chairs as appropriate
* Order and take delivery of materials to deal with repairs mentioned above
* Subject to safety regulations, redecoration of any area, agreed as reasonable on instruction from the Estates Manager, or the arrangement of external decorators as appropriate
* Be responsible for the supply and availability of all hygiene materials.
Health and Safety
* Undertake safeguarding training
* Carry out duties in accordance with the current School safeguarding policy and procedures
* Respond to premises emergencies as necessary
* Carry out duties of the post acting in accordance with the School Health and Safety policy and protocols laid out in the staff handbook
* Regularly checking the proper operation and function of alarms and fire equipment and ensuring emergency exits are not obstructed.
* To remove broken or unwanted items
* Estates staff have a duty of care towards their colleagues, pupils and visitors of the School. It is important to keep up to date paperwork regarding the following:
* Fire evacuation drills and weekly alarm testing
* Playground checks
* Health and Safety monitoring/inspections
* Electrical testing
* Asbestos register
* Professional development:
Undertake relevant training to ensure that individual professional development enables further enhancement of skills and qualities to deliver support in the most effective manner. To include:
* Fire Warden
* Working at heights
* Manual handling
* Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
* Asbestos awareness
Dress code: Estates staff are required to dress in accordance with the clothing requirements set out in the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure their duties are accomplished without prejudicing the health and safety of themselves or others. Uniform is provided and must be worn at all times while on duty so that all staff present a neat, tidy and professional appearance.

The successful candidate will have experience or be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
Skills and knowledge
* Working in a School environment (desirable not essential)
* Proven and successful background in outdoor and indoor maintenance
* Ability to work as an effective and inspirational team member
* Ability to remain calm under pressure whilst staying within tight deadlines when necessary
* Proven experience of multi-tasking and prioritising work
* Full UK driving licence (essential)
