About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Floor Layer to join our Commercial Services Trades team, reporting to the Service Manager.
This role is responsible for delivering high-quality floor covering repairs and renewals across responsive, void, and planned maintenance properties.
You will play a key role in ensuring flooring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while delivering excellent customer service at all times.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Accurately measure and prepare floors using latex or plywood.
Fit vinyl sheet flooring, safety flooring, and vinyl tiles.
Measure and prepare floors; fit underlay, gripper rods, and carpet in properties.
Carry out minor repairs to carpet, laminate, vinyl, stair nosings, and treads to eliminate trip hazards.
Prepare and fit vinyl flooring to wet rooms, including cap and cove systems.
Offer customers a limited choice of floor finishes, order materials, arrange deliveries, and schedule appointments.
Deliver high-quality workmanship while maintaining positive customer relationships.
Complete works within agreed priorities and aim to achieve first-time fixes.
Ensure all works comply with Health & Safety legislation, policies, and procedures, including appropriate use of equipment and PPE.
Apply a Schedule of Rates for accurate job costing and ensure repair orders reflect correct values.
Produce quotes for flooring finishes, including materials and labour.
Accurately record work undertaken, hours worked, materials used, and associated costs (paper or electronic systems).Skills & Experience Required
Proven experience fitting a variety of floor coverings in domestic and commercial environments.
Ability to identify different grades of carpet and vinyl and determine suitability.
Knowledge of wet room flooring systems (e.g., AKW products).
Experience working within a trade team to tight deadlines.
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
Full UK driving licence (or ability to travel efficiently between properties, including rural locations).
Ability to undertake physically demanding work.
Asbestos awareness certification.
Knowledge of COSHH regulations, particularly relating to latex, solvents, and adhesives.
