BAND 7 Paediatric Oncology / Haematology Nurse Specialist
RSCN/RN (CHILD) ESSSENTIAL
(Monday & Friday with an additional day in the week fixed or flexible)
The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an accredited Level 1 Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU) and service which sees 20-30 new patients per year and has about 50 patients on active treatment. We provide supportive care and chemotherapy to children with oncological and haematological problems over a wide area of West London. Due to maternity leave, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced Paediatric Nurse to join our dynamic, forward‑thinking, and dedicated paediatric haematology/oncology team for a fixed maternity cover.
The paediatric department consists of a 24‑bedded inpatient ward (Bumblebee Ward), Rainbow Children's Day Care Unit and Tinkerbell Outpatients. As a POSCU, we work closely with our Principal Treatment Centres, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and University College London Hospitals, as well as a number of Children’s Community Nursing Teams. As part of the POSCU team, you will work closely with the lead clinicians and Lead CNS to develop and enhance the service.
This role will be varied and will require significant experience in paediatric haematology/oncology as well as the necessary people skills to support paediatric patients through complex treatment.
The role requires the ability to access central lines and to be competent to administer prescribed chemotherapy, or willingness to undertake the relevant training required. The role requires a weekday work pattern with some flexibility in working hours, attending meetings, representing the service on and off site and providing clinical care to patients.
Main duties of the job
As a senior nurse in this specialist role, you will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and high motivation, excellent communication and leadership skills. You will be well‑organised and able to work independently and as part of a team. You will be computer literate. Using these skills you will work closely with the paediatric matron, the Lead CNS, the clinical leads for paediatric oncology, haematology, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure that children and families receive the highest standards of integrated care within an ever‑changing, challenging environment.
