SEN Academic Coach

Could you be the steady support a KS4 student with autism needs to feel settled and make progress in school? Are you looking for hands-on SEN experience in a secondary setting before moving into educational or clinical psychology?

*** SEN Academic Coach
*** September 2026 – Academic Year placement
*** £107.06 - £111.31 per day
*** Secondary school based in Wednesbury
*** Support a student with Autism across KS4

The Role:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a KS4 student with autism across the school day. You will help the pupil manage routines, stay engaged in lessons, break tasks into manageable steps, and access learning more confidently, while keeping teachers and the SENCO updated on progress. School SEN support follows a graduated approach of identifying needs, putting support in place, and reviewing its impact.

The Candidate:
You are calm, patient, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You want meaningful school-based experience, you can stay focused in a busy secondary environment, and you are keen to support a young person with additional needs in a way that has a real day-to-day impact. SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs, which makes this role a strong foundation for psychology-related pathways.

Requirements
1. Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
2. Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
3. Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Child-facing school roles can be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check, and regulated activity roles can also require a Children’s Barred List check.
4. Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
5. Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This secondary school based in Wednesbury offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants practical SEN experience in mainstream education. You will work closely with experienced staff in a school that values structure, consistency, and purposeful support, giving you direct exposure to the kind of provision that helps pupils with SEND access learning and make progress. Recent government SEND reform proposals also continue to emphasise getting the right support in place in mainstream settings as early and effectively as possible.

How to Apply
Apply today with your CV to be considered for this SEN Academic Coach role. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps and arrange interview. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the high number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
