Role Overview:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the hearing support team at Oldham. Working within the supportive and welcoming hearing impairment team, a part of the council’s specialist education services, you will provide support and advice related to the needs of children and young people who are hearing impaired. Working with families and schools/settings will be a key part of the role, to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and young people. Applications are welcomed from experienced professionals with the Teacher of the Deaf Qualification or willingness to complete the training.

Key Responsibilities:

* Working across a variety of settings, through a peripatetic/outreach model, you will be part of a team committed to providing high quality support to deaf and hearing impaired children and young people across the borough.
* Your work will be crucial to the development of children and young people with hearing needs. You will be a natural relationship-builder, working closely with families, which may include home visits and supporting them through early identification and intervention.
* You will apply a general approach with a key focus on child and family centred activities and partnership working with other agencies.
* Your creative ways to work with children and families will be crucial in removing barriers for them so that they can learn, develop and reach their full potential.
* You will play a key part in developing opportunities, including multi-agency projects tailored to the sensory needs of children, young people and their families.

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

* Qualified teacher status and experience of working in schools/settings.
* Teacher of the Deaf Qualification or willingness to complete the training.
* Ability to manage a caseload and deliver specialist support and advice to schools/settings and parents/carers.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and therefore expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
