You will be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner in the assessment and management of patients, liaise with colleagues and other professionals, and maintain effective time management skills.
Responsibilities
* Work as an autonomous practitioner in the assessment and management of patients.
* Maintain adequate records of assessment, treatment and progress of patients.
* Organise clinical caseload efficiently within a defined area with supportive guidance from a senior physiotherapist.
* Communicate effectively and collaborate with medical, nursing, therapy and social services staff to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary care.
* Contribute to physiotherapy service objectives in providing quality patient care and maintaining physiotherapy standards.
* Maintain and develop clinical and professional knowledge in line with HCPC standards and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
* Participate in in‑service training, keep up to date with core mandatory training, maintain a portfolio of CPD, and support preceptorship and teaching where appropriate.
* Facilitate the education of physiotherapy students and participate in research activities such as journal clubs, evidence‑based practice and clinical audit.
* Ensure all written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional standards and organisational guidance.
* Supervise assistants and technical instructors, and assist with induction of new staff.
* Participate as an autonomous practitioner in the emergency ‘on‑call’ rota and weekend working across services where required.
* Participate in staff appraisal scheme and personal development plans.
* Pro‑actively contribute to clinical governance and link national and Trust guidelines to team objectives and personal practice.
* Carry out assessments and treatments of medical and neurological conditions with frequent moderate physical effort.
* Deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and aggression or who are unmotivated due to pain, dementia or limited mobility.
* Manage exposure to bodily fluids and handle verbal and physical aggression with appropriate protocols.
* Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly to clients, relatives, carers and multi‑agency professionals.
* Use techniques to overcome communication barriers and handle challenging situations.
* Promote and educate others regarding the role of physiotherapy and the importance of health and well‑being.
* Maintain basic IT skills, including use of Internet, e‑mail and therapy programmes within the service.
* Show awareness of and fulfil responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and organisational policies.
* Manage own workload with guidance from senior staff, act in patients’ best interests, respect patient rights, obtain informed consent, practice non‑discriminatory care, and seek advice when necessary.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Diploma or degree in Physiotherapy.
* Health Professions Council registration.
* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
* Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
* Experience in all core areas of Physiotherapy (MSK, Community, Acute).
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, using a variety of assessments and interventions.
* Effective communication skills with relevant examples.
* Awareness of local and national policy, clinical practice standards and guidelines.
* Capacity to travel between sites and access to a vehicle.
* Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle for work purposes.
Desirable Qualifications
* Proficient IT skills, including Office 365 and other relevant systems.
* Additional UK professional registration as required.
