Job Title: Head Chef

Pay Rate: £17.50 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week (52 weeks per year)
Job Overview We are currently recruiting for an experienced Head Chef to lead the kitchen within a well-established care home in Cambridge. This role is ideal for a chef who is passionate about preparing high-quality, nutritious meals and creating a positive dining experience for residents.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the kitchen, ensuring meals are prepared to a high standard while meeting all dietary requirements, nutritional guidelines, and food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the care home kitchen.
Plan, prepare, and oversee the cooking of nutritious, well-balanced meals for residents.
Ensure all meals meet dietary, cultural, and medical requirements where necessary.
Maintain excellent food hygiene and health & safety standards in line with regulations.
Manage stock levels, ordering, and storage of food supplies.
Monitor food costs and minimise waste while maintaining quality.
Supervise and support kitchen staff, ensuring tasks are organised and completed efficiently.
Develop seasonal menus that provide variety and meet residents preferences.
Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely and maintained appropriately.
Work closely with the Home Manager and care team to support residents needs and enhance their dining experience.
Maintain accurate records relating to food safety, stock control, and kitchen operations.
Requirements Previous experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef, ideally within care homes, healthcare, or contract catering.
Strong knowledge of food hygiene, nutrition, and dietary requirements.
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 3 desirable).
Experience managing a kitchen team.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Passion for providing high-quality meals that enhance residents wellbeing.
