To provide a portering service to all wards & departments. To escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley. To distribute food trolleys and boxes and food items. To transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department and other wards and departments. To collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department. To distribute and change medical gas cylinders as requested. To attend fire calls. To assist at cardiac arrests. To transport records, X-rays, furniture, equipment and materials. To undertake mortuary duties as required - viewings, BIDs. To report any suspicious incidents and assist where necessary When required, assist with low level security requests. To cover staff in the post room - sorting incoming and outgoing Mail - distribute to all wards and departments. To collect general clinical, waste - cytotoxic refuse and sharp boxes from all areas on site if required. Attends mandatory training courses. Ensure that when a deceased patient is transported from the ward they are treated with due dignity and respect. Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training and Dealing with Conflict training. Training in safe handling of medical gases. Training in safe handling of all medical gases/ safe handling of liquid nitrogen.
