Job Title: Network Engineer - Data Center
Location: Portsmouth, VA
Responsibilities
Trace Systems is seeking a Network Engineer - Data Center to support the Norfolk Naval Shipyard CIO department (Code 109). The associated network capabilities support Navy Fleet readiness and include automated tools that enhance the warfighter’s mission execution. Functions support mission areas such as Fleet logistics, maintenance, ship industrial and maintenance production activities, engineering, supply, legal, readiness, plans and policy, program planning and management, personnel; hurricane disaster preparedness and response; worldwide support of bases, the war-fighter, and stations; readiness reporting and support; and securing the Homeland. The NNSY CIO is responsible for the installation, administration, development, management, and/or maintenance of all networks and systems installed at NNSY and telecommunication services. The CIO provides IT approval for IT purchases made for and by NNSY and ensures that all systems and networks operate securely by implementing and managing an Information Assurance program that meets Navy and DoD requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assign and change processing priority and maintenance schedules, perform operating system boots as instructed, and monitor the system processing status and data center status.
* Operate and manage the Server Farms.
* Monitor data center and IT system performance and notify appropriate personnel for corrective action.
* Monitor and report data center operating conditions, including humidity control, temperature, fire detection, access control, and power.
* Maintain access control to data center areas and maintain sign-in and sign-out logs for visitors as required.
* Provide job monitoring and scheduling (including reruns), job execution, cancellations and reporting services.
* Provide and support Data Center networks (e.g., LAN, WAN) and related operations (design, build, systems monitoring, incident diagnostics, troubleshooting, resolution and escalation, security management, and capacity planning/analysis) as required.
* Install and configure Data Center system management tools and proactively monitor environmental characteristics (availability, performance, problems, issues and events); identify, correlate, report and resolve incidents and problems.
* Plan, develop, and maintain the infrastructure architecture, providing design recommendations to the Government for approval.
* Test backup media to ensure incremental and full recovery of data is possible and ensure Data Center component integrity as required or requested.
* Perform Data Center component backups and management to established retention periods.
* Provide preventative measures, proactive monitoring and system management to limit outages that impact service delivery.
* Develop and provide daily Data Center operations metric report showing performance, storage capacities, and significant events from the prior day.
Minimum Qualifications
* Active, in-scope US Government issued Top Secret clearance.
* US Citizenship required due to the nature of the work and contract requirements.
* Security+ CE or higher and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) with Enterprise Core or Data Center specialty.
* Minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated knowledge and experience in Cisco networks; including design, configuring, installing enterprise network devices and working in a data center environment. Examples of relevant experience may include:
o Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and monitoring network systems, hardware, and software applications, including switches, routers, firewalls, data center technologies, routing protocols, and network appliances.
o Implementation of DISA STIGs to ensure compliance of network components; evaluate and respond to network incidents; perform corrective actions; support approved change management processes.
o Implementing and managing data center technologies, including network, compute, storage, automation, and security. Work with Windows, Unix, and other server administrators to design, address requirements, troubleshoot issues, and implement changes in a data center environment. Understand Cisco data center solutions (Nexus, UCS, ACI, Fibre Channel).
o Reviewing security information and event management (SIEM) tools to discover and resolve network events; implement and manage security protocols and policies; perform root cause analysis and provide corrective actions.
o Proficiency in advanced routing protocols (e.g., EIGRP, OSPF) and switching technologies; understanding and implementing SDN technologies like SD-Access and SD-WAN; planning, designing, and implementing local and wide-area enterprise networks.
o Experience working with DoD teams to support project objectives; contribute to project/task plans and resolve events and issues.
o Hardware: Network switches (Cisco Nexus 7000/9000, Cisco Catalyst); Cisco routers (Cisco 4551, 8500).
o Software: SolarWinds, Cisco ISE, Cisco DNA Center, Splunk.
Desired Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related discipline AND four years of experience as described above; OR ten (10) years of relevant experience as described above.
