Ecology Graduate – Basingstoke, UK – Immediate start
AECOM is looking for a new Graduate Ecologist to join our Basingstoke office immediately. This role offers a rich learning environment and a clear path toward a sustainable career in ecology and environmental consulting.
About the team
Our Nature team is part of AECOM’s Environment, Water and Energy business. We deliver environmental management services, including feasibility studies, innovative nature‑based solutions and environmental due diligence across energy, water, manufacturing, and transportation sectors.
Roles and responsibilities
* Perform desk‑based assessments and field surveys – preliminary ecological appraisal, UKHab Survey, biodiversity net gain data collection, and protected species surveys.
* Design and support habitat and species surveys across terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments.
* Collect and analyse biodiversity data, prepare reports, maps and recommendations.
* Work in a multidisciplinary team, liaising with architects, engineers, planners, economists and other specialists.
* Support the preparation of environmental impact assessments and mitigation plans.
* Assist with project‑management tasks, ensuring safety and technical standards.

Qualifications (minimum)
* 2:1 degree or above in Ecology or a related ecological subject.
* Deep interest and understanding of UK wildlife and species identification.
* Practical field skills and experience with protected species surveys.
* Strong data recording, Microsoft Office and Excel skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, organisational and report‑writing skills.
* Team working, self‑motivation and a commitment to continuous learning.
* Full UK driving licence is an asset.
Preferred qualifications
* Post‑graduate degree or current postgraduate studies in a relevant discipline.
* Protected species licence (e.g. bats, great crested newts, hazel dormouse).
* Experience of Phase 1 habitat or UKHab surveys.
* Membership or pursuit of membership of a relevant professional institution.
