In the paediatric department at Cambridge University Hospital’s we are dedicated to providing specialist, professional care to our patients and their families in a welcoming and committed atmosphere. Integral to achieving this is our patient safety and governance nurse for children’s services, within the Women and Children Division (Division E).

You will work collaboratively with the patient safety and governance nurse for neonatal services and the lead nurse for quality within Children’s services, supporting the quality agenda for the service including patient safety and experience ensuring information and learning is shared widely.


Main duties of the job

The post offers many opportunities to develop and shape the service, in addition to contributing to the senior nursing management across Children’s Services. As a professional lead in this service you will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills as well as leading and influencing change. You will be motivated to make a positive difference to the child, family and staff experience,

Reporting to the Lead Nurse for quality within children’s services you will ensure partnership working across teams in promoting service development for future development of the Cambridge Children’s Hospital.

You will be visible and supportive to the teams and empower them to develop. As a senior nurse you will be involved in ensuring service standards and guidance are achieved.

You will provide specialist clinical knowledge and leadership and will liaise with all relevant professional groups and agencies within and outside the Trust to enhance the delivery of care to children, young people and families, providing guidance, support and advice

Essential criteria

Experience in a tertiary service.

Previous experience in Risk Management

Evidence of use of professional networking beyond organisational level.

Experience of managing change and processes

Working knowledge of patient safety and governance

Evidence of effective MDT working


Desirable criteria

Evidence of working across traditional organisational boundaries

Evidence of Quality Improvement

Evidence of PMRT, child death reviews, CQC involvement

Awareness of professional issues

To have an in-depth knowledge of children’s or neonatal nursing, integrating theory and practice.

To understand the needs of the nursing team

Awareness of Health and safety issues
