Main duties of the job
Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) Central and Wessex region are seeking a dynamic, organized, and efficient Band 5 Practice Nurse to work within our Primary Healthcare team at Benson Group Practice. This role will primarily be based at Abingdon, with travel to Benson Medical as required. The post offers part-time hours, 33 hours per week.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary primary healthcare team, leading the delivery of primary healthcare nursing, including elements of occupational health.

We are looking for someone who can work independently, providing high-quality nursing care to the patient population, managing an individual caseload, and assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with complex health needs, minor injuries, illnesses, and specific diseases within their competence.
Many practices are networked to support each other. You may be asked to work at linked practice sites, with travel time and costs covered.

Job responsibilities
Your duties will include but are not limited to:
* Providing high-quality, person-centered primary care, always respecting safety, privacy, and dignity, using evidence-based clinical knowledge and healthcare guidelines.
* Delivering appropriate treatment, screening, and advice within your professional competence and in accordance with DPHC protocols.
* Providing safe, efficient, and individualized patient care.
* Undertaking preventative health programs, such as travel clinics, vaccinations, new patient screening, and audiometry.
* Performing technical nursing treatments for patients with complex or specialist healthcare needs (e.g., wound care, sutures removal, ECGs, cytology, audiometry, ear care).
* Offering specialist advice and support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals throughout assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.

The successful candidate must provide evidence of:
* Training to degree/diploma level in professional/clinical knowledge.
* Registration with the UK NMC on Part 1 Subsection 1 (RN1/RN(A)).
Applicants with NMC PIN in progress are eligible to apply. Successful applicants will start on a pre-registered nurse Band 3 until registration is confirmed, after which pay will be adjusted to Band 5. Salary is pro-rata for part-time hours.

There is no deployment requirement, as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will ensure continuity of care at your base.

A 6-month probation applies for new Civil Service employees. Sponsorship under the points-based system is not available for this role, as it is not deemed business critical.

Person Specification
Experience
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Anaphylaxis, AED, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Safeguarding Level 3 (Children and Adults), or willingness to undertake training.
* Proficiency in relevant IT systems, subject to training.
* Willingness to undertake specific training (e.g., audiometry, ear care, minor illness/injury, physical assessment, travel health) and DPHC/MOD training as appropriate.

Salary: £29,270 to £36,483 per annum (pro-rata), pay award pending.
