Job Title: Year 1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Darwen, East Lancashire
Job Type: Temporary – Full Time (Term Time Only)
Salary: £13.75 – £14.20 per hour
We are looking to appoint a caring and enthusiastic Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Darwen, East Lancashire. This is a full-time temporary role, working closely with the class teacher to provide high-quality support across all areas of the curriculum.
The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils to develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning within a nurturing classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Year 1 teacher in delivering engaging and well-structured lessons.
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils embed key learning concepts.
* Assist in the delivery of phonics and guided reading sessions – experience in these areas would be highly advantageous.
* Promote positive behaviour and help maintain an inclusive, encouraging learning environment.
* Support classroom organisation, displays, and preparation of learning materials.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* Previous experience working with children in a primary school setting.
* Understanding of child development and effective learning strategies.
* Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
* A patient, positive, and nurturing approach to supporting young learners.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
* First Aid certification.
* Experience supporting children’s early reading and phonics development.
Working Conditions:
* Temporary, full-time role (term time only).
* Based within a friendly and inclusive primary school in Darwen.
