Working as a Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO) in Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS)

Our operations run 24/6 with various shifts, including early and late. Flexibility and different working arrangements are available, with a rota provided 12 weeks in advance. Part-time roles for day shifts are considered, with full-time attendance during initial training.
About the Role
As a PCO at court, you'll work in a team to ensure the safe escort and custody of detainees, focusing on their wellbeing. Responsibilities include:
* Escorting defendants within court premises, including to and from courtrooms and cells, ensuring security and safety
* Monitoring detainees during court sessions to prevent risks
* Handling sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
* Providing for detainees' food, drink, and health needs
* Responding to emergencies and ensuring court security
* Completing accurate paperwork and working with court staff and law enforcement
Requirements
No prior experience is necessary; commitment to making a difference is key. Training will be provided. A valid driver's license, good communication skills, physical fitness, and a responsible attitude are preferred. An interest in criminology or psychology is beneficial.

Includes online assessment, eligibility briefing, virtual competency interview, role-play, and written exercise.
