Job Description
Designed by families, for families, The Ark was opened in September 2019 by the Mayor of London. The grounds offer wheelchair accessible outdoor experiences, including a Woodland Walk through a 7-acre nature reserve, a hydrotherapy pool and overnight suites for families to be close to their loved ones. At The Ark we are able to provide Specialist Care and Nursing for babies, children and young people, supporting their full clinical, emotional, social and practical needs.
Our expert staff and trained volunteers provide clinical, emotional and practical support for families across North and Central London and Herts Valley. We carefully adapt our support for every child and offer it wherever it is required - whether in their home, their community or at our state-of-the-art children’s hospice building, The Ark, in Barnet.
About You
You will be a registered nurse, supporting with the education and development of our Care Team. You will provide clinical and holistic care and support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families. You will manage care planning, symptom control and end of life care.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities Of The Role
* Supporting the Care Team with their education, development and infection prevention and control.
* Ensuring holistic care is family-centred, needs-led, evidence-based and meets all statutory requirements.
* Applying competent clinical decision making and practice.
* Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care plans to meet children’s needs.
* Undertaking end-of-life care and provide symptom management including assessment and planning.
* Delivering end of life and post-death care.
* Participating in the 24/7 out of hours clinical on call service for the locality as required.
* Ensuring all risks associated with care delivery are managed effectively with incidents or concerns being reported / followed up in line with our policy.
* Undertake appraisals of Band 5 Nurses and Specialist Carers.
* Actively contribute towards quality assurance and practice development activities e.g. audit, benchmarking, service review, reflective practice and action learning.
* Expectation to work clinical shifts on our Woodlands unit (including 1 weekend per month).
* Effectively work within the legal, ethical and professional frameworks applicable to children’s palliative care.
* To share professional expertise with colleagues, providing support and training as applicable.
* Responsibility for maintaining and updating own professional practice.
* Acting as an ambassador for the charity, maintaining positive and effective communication with other agencies involved with families receiving our services.
* Any other reasonable management requests.
