Court of Protection Solicitor / Associate
This is a full-time role based at Forbes Solicitors’ Walton Summit Office. Hybrid working arrangements may be available depending on operational requirements. The role focuses on developing and growing the Court of Protection (COP) workstream within the private client team.
The Role
Forbes Solicitors are seeking a Solicitor/Associate with strong Court of Protection knowledge and a business development focus to develop and grow COP work. The role includes building a strong and profitable COP client base, developing the department’s strategic plan, and supporting the Heads of Department and Partners in delivering objectives.
* Grow and handle a varied COP caseload (e.g., deputyship applications, property and affairs files, including related personal injury and clinical negligence settlements).
* Contribute to the development and implementation of the departmental strategic plan to drive business growth.
* Assist in the development and growth of the Court of Protection workstream.
* Build and maintain positive relationships with current/prospective clients, referrers and stakeholders, and enhance the firm’s profile.
* Contribute to business development activities (presentations, training events, articles/newsletters, Chambers & Legal 500 submissions, etc.).
* Support the Head of Department, Partners and other advisors on cases and delivery of departmental objectives.
* Manage, supervise, train, coach, and mentor Solicitors and Paralegals; delegate work to facilitate business objectives and professional development.
* Ensure compliance with internal and external requirements (ISO:9001, SRA Principles / Code of Conduct, Court & Tribunal deadlines).
* Monitor and report on personal and team financial and business performance to deliver work profitably.
* Contribute to internal continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and inter-departmental collaboration on joint files.
The Person
We will assess applicants based on demonstrated knowledge, experience and skills in the following Essential and Desirable criteria.
Essential
* Qualified Solicitor (or CILEX equivalent) with minimum 4 years PQE in a specialist COP department/team.
* Demonstrable COP experience and expert knowledge of the sector.
* Willingness to participate in handling large projects and business development activities.
* Proven experience of handling own caseload, meeting deadlines, and generating fees against targets.
* Strong client care skills and professional, competent legal advice in line with the SRA Code of Conduct.
* Excellent presentation and client handling skills; commercially astute.
* Good IT skills (Word, Outlook, case management systems).
* Excellent organisational and communication skills; able to work collaboratively in a team; reliable and enthusiastic.
* High attention to detail; professionalism and ethical standards; alignment with the Firm’s values.
Desirable
* Experience supervising, managing and motivating others effectively.
