Job Overview

We have an exciting business improvement opportunity to resolve data quality issues and enhance our Water Quality regulatory IT systems. The successful candidate will work alongside the data quality team to produce audits, identify and resolve data quality issues, develop reports and Power BI dashboards, and respond to data requests.


Key Responsibilities

* Produce data quality audits and track progress of issue resolution.
* Identify underlying causes of data inaccuracies, inconsistencies or missing data.
* Develop reports and Power BI dashboards to visualise workload and progress.
* Collaborate with data experts and Water Quality regulation teams (permitting, compliance, reporting) to establish efficient resolution processes.
* Respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during incidents (optional role with additional pay and full training).
* Work closely with the Regulatory Services Programme to ensure Water Quality regulation is underpinned by high‑quality data sets.


Qualifications

* Degree level education or equivalent work experience.
* Demonstrable experience carrying out data quality checks, audits or validation activities within structured datasets.
* Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail and a methodical approach to data review.
* Ability to investigate data quality issues, understand root causes and support actions to resolve them.
* Proficient working with data in spreadsheets, databases or business systems and the ability to record findings accurately and auditable.
* Effective communication skills to present data quality issues clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Good problem‑solving skills, organisational ability and the capacity to manage competing priorities.

* Base location: any Environment Agency office; remote working and meetings are the norm, with some national travel required.
