Role Purpose
The Quality Inspector will be responsible for ensuring that manufactured sheet metal components and assemblies meet customer, drawing, and regulatory requirements. The role is critical to maintaining high standards expected within the science sector and ensuring ongoing compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Quality Control
· Inspect incoming materials, in-process work, and finished components against engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards
· Carry out dimensional inspections using hand measuring equipment (verniers, micrometres, height gauges, etc.)
· Identify, record, and report non-conformances and support corrective actions
· Ensure traceability of materials and components where required
· Approve or reject products in line with quality procedures
Documentation & Reporting
· Complete inspection records, quality reports, and non-conformance reports accurately and in a timely manner
· Support the maintenance of quality documentation in line with ISO 9001 requirements
· Assist with customer quality documentation such as inspection reports and certificates of conformity
Process & Continuous Improvement
· Work closely with production, welding, fabrication, and laser/press brake teams to resolve quality issues
· Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap and rework
ISO & Compliance
· Support compliance with ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)
· Assist during internal and external audits when required
· Ensure quality and environmental procedures are followed on the shop floor
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
· Previous experience in a quality inspection role within a manufacturing or engineering environment
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
· Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication and welding processes
· Confident using measuring equipment and inspection tools
· Good attention to detail and a methodical approach
· Ability to communicate clearly with shop floor and management teams
Desirable
· Experience within sheet metal fabrication or precision engineering
· Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 systems
· Experience supplying regulated or high-specification sectors (e.g. science, medical, aerospace, or similar)
· Familiarity with basic root cause analysis techniques

Working Hours
· Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:45
· Overtime may be required to support business needs
