12 month secondment opportunity (maternity cover) to operationally lead and deliver the Voice service to outpatients (adults and children) with clinical voice disorders.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced band 6 with relevant skills to develop their leadership portfolio and grow their experience. Experience working with upper airways conditions (e.g., chronic cough, laryngeal hypersensitivity, inducible laryngeal obstruction, and Long COVID) is desirable, alongside underpinning knowledge of neurology.
The well-established model of an 'ENT SLT' service at ELHT means that there may be opportunities for the successful applicant to contribute clinically to Head & Neck and FEES services, depending on competencies and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical leadership and service development within Clinical Voice Disorders and ENT.
2. Deliver clinical services to adults and children with acquired voice, communication, and/or swallowing problems.
3. Use evidence-based, highly specialist skills to undertake expert assessments and deliver interventions to complex clinical caseloads.
4. Contribute to teaching, training, and support for junior staff as required.
5. Engage as an active member of the wider ENT multidisciplinary team.
Established in 2003, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) provides high-quality acute secondary healthcare for East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen. The SLT service includes clinical leads in Critical Care, Dysphagia, Head & Neck, Stroke, FEES, Videofluoroscopy, Neurorehabilitation, Care Homes, and Community. We are involved in service and workforce initiatives across the Lancashire and South Cumbria ICS and research collaborations with UCLan’s AHP Professor in Neurorehabilitation and Stroke.
The service is well-equipped and supported by administrators, SLT Assistants, and Therapy Assistant Practitioners. We hold regular team meetings, an annual SLT Showcase, and continuous improvement initiatives. We are committed to professional development, supervision, regular line management, and annual appraisals.
