This is an exciting opportunity to work in Cardiovascular Directorate at St Thomas’s Hospital.
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Senior Nursing Assistant who is ready for the next challenge in their career. This role involves working within Doulton Ward at St Thomas Hospital, which handles pre and post cardiac and vascular surgery with a focus on the ERAS pathway.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and teamwork skills, be highly motivated, and able to work independently with support when needed.
This position involves routine observations, ECGs, cannulation, phlebotomy, and training for additional clinical roles.
Main duties of the job
The post holder should be competent in patient observations, blood glucose monitoring, phlebotomy, cannulation, and assisting with fundamental care. Experience in wound dressings and willingness to learn complex wound management are also required.
We seek a motivated, enthusiastic senior nursing assistant with excellent communication skills. The role involves shifts including long days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Provide excellent patient care prioritizing safety and wellbeing.
* Perform delegated clinical duties and act on own initiative.
* Ensure high-quality care respecting patients’ cultural and religious backgrounds.
* Recognize and prevent health risks.
* Advocate for patients and ensure patient-centered care.
* Support implementation of care plans.
* Assist with fluid and dietary needs, including recording intake and output.
* Collect specimens, record vital signs, and escalate concerns.
* Recognize pain and discomfort and report appropriately.
* Perform venepuncture and cannulation under supervision.
* Maintain and develop skills, including ECG, dressings, blood glucose, and monitoring nutritional and fluid intake.
* Respond to clinical emergencies effectively.
