Overview

Whatever you’re looking for in your career, it is all here for you at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. We are the largest Cellular Pathology department in the country, and we are looking for an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our diverse teams across the Oxford Road Campus and Wythenshawe sites. You’ll have the opportunity to work cross-site, offering exposure to specialist training.

Our laboratories have implemented Sakura SMART automation with Tissue-Tek AutoTEC A120 automated embedding systems and the Tissue-Tek Xpress X120. We are investing in new technologies to deliver and improve patient care. The service has an extensive immunohistochemistry repertoire, including prognostic markers in Lymphoma, Lung and Breast Cancer, supported by Biomedical Scientist led scoring for breast markers, including DDISH and PDL1 for triple negative breast cancer. The departments are also working towards full implementation of digital pathology to support the Greater Manchester Strategy for Digital Pathology, with clinical reporting from digital images increasing since go-live in July 2025.

Responsibilities

* Operate as a Biomedical Scientist within Histopathology, in line with ISO 15189 standards, rotating across the department and providing scientific services to patients and customers to aid pathological diagnosis.
* Work with the senior team to support management of documentation and overall performance.
* Take a role in the training and development of scientific staff.
* Contribute to cross-site working and exposure to specialist training opportunities.


Working pattern

Monday-Friday 7am-7pm and Sunday 8am-4pm on a rotational basis.


Qualifications & Requirements

* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
* Experience operating within Histopathology and familiarity with ISO 15189 standards.
* Interest in digital pathology and immunohistochemistry with prognostic markers in cancer (Lymphoma, Lung, Breast) and related scoring (DDISH, PDL1).
* Ability to work across sites and participate in cross-site training and development.
