System Safety Engineer

About the Role
Under the direction of LM leadership, and/or Lead System Safety Engineer, undertake the following tasks:
1. Develop Safety Management Plans, including sub-contractor/supplier interfacing elements
2. Conduct Functional Safety Assessments for System (and optionally software) safety aspects, such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Sub System Hazard Analysis, Functional safety assessment, Occupational and Operating Hazard Analysis.
3. Derive safety requirements, including integrity requirements
4. Document System Level Safety Arguments, Safety Cases and Safety Reports for System and optionally Software Safety aspects
5. Support the review of subcontract safety documents.
6. Support Project Safety Committees, Safety Review Meeting, Technical Interface Meetings, Safety Review Meetings and Safety Working Groups
7. Conduct Zonals and physical safety audits
8. Demonstrate compliance with legislative requirements
9. Support safety audits and manage findings to closure
10. Support development of LM safety processes/procedures and improvements
The role will not be authorized to provide services to Lockheed Martin UK Limited, which are directly related to business development, acquisition, or sales efforts for a Lockheed Martin UK Limited customer or potential customer. Any exception to this rule can only be granted, in advance, by the Lockheed Martin UK Ltd, Havant representative or legal counsel representative.
Contractor/Agency to be responsible for maintaining adequate liability insurance, certifications, accreditations, and training required to perform their tasks.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
11. UK and EU safety related legislation (. Health and Safety at Work Act)
12. Environmental legislation and management systems (. ISO14001
13. Defence and commercial safety standards such as Def Stan 00-056, Def-Stan 00-055, Mil Std 882, IEC61508, JSP 430), RTCA DO– 178C, and RTCA DO254
14. Safety Case development using the Adelard Safety Case Editor (ASCE)
15. Hazard Management using eCassandra
16. Event Tree and Fault Tree development using Reliability Work Bench
17. Experience of the software development commensurate with Safety Integrity Level 2 including safety aspects of software requirements methodologies, design principles, Coding and verification
18. Understanding of the impact of use of COTS equipment and/or of PE reuse in a safety related environment
Desired Skills for the Role
19. Application of the required skills in a military aircraft environment
20. Understanding of the Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Articles as they apply to Rotary Aircraft, in particular the RA 1200 series
21. Understanding Def-Stan 00-970, and its application to Rotary platforms
22. Experience of the PE development commensurate with Safety Integrity Level 3
23. Auditing experience, PE in particular
24. Programme Element Safety Summary (PESS) development in accordance with Def-Stan 00-055
