Technical Training Lead (Operator) role at Southern Water. Location: Sussex or Kent. Salary: around £47,000 depending on experience. Closing date: 2025-09-26.
Join a fast-paced Water Performance team and contribute to a sustainable training programme for colleagues within Water Resource and Production. Share knowledge and experience of operating clean water treatment processes, help develop training material, and deliver technical training to operational and technical teams.
Responsibilities
* Create and deliver function-specific learning interventions to demonstrate to regulators that field teams are trained and competent.
* Work with the Team Co-ordinator to ensure training records are captured promptly, stored in accordance with GDPR, and provide appropriate reporting for line managers to support ongoing capability and performance review.
* Act as the primary point of contact between the business and field teams to gather feedback on training and learning interventions.
* Create and refresh a question bank to keep the competency tool, Clever Nelly, fully utilised; develop publishing-ready material and support line managers with reporting.
* Deliver technical training modules to operational and technical teams using a variety of methods to provide an engaging learning experience.
* Plan and manage work to tight deadlines; demonstrate strong self-motivation and organisational skills.
* Articulate work processes to develop training material; demonstrate IT proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; develop in-house competency assessments via an online portal.
* Produce suitable training material for publishing and work with Talent Development and Water Resource/Production colleagues to draw on their expertise.
* Travel across the region when required; driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
* Receive full training and coaching and ongoing support from line management, a dedicated Project Manager, and Talent Development colleagues.
Qualifications and Skills
* Strong experience in the water treatment function; experience operating surface and/or ground water sites.
* Sound understanding of regulatory requirements affecting wholesome drinking water provision.
* Knowledge of sample types, health significance of water quality parameters, and principles of water supply hygiene.
* Understanding of health and safety, risk assessment principles, and their application to real-world situations.
* Ability to summarise technical issues for non-technical audiences and communicate effectively with stakeholders, including regulators.
* Proven planning and self-management skills with a flexible approach and the ability to work to deadlines.
* Ability to influence and persuade others at all levels.
* NVQ level 3 in water treatment is ideal but not essential.
