We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic respiratory research team as a Band 6 Respiratory Healthcare Science Practitioner/Scientist. This role is ideally suited to a respiratory physiologist looking to broaden their experience and develop their skills within a clinical research setting.

The post is available for 12 months on a full or part time basis.

This post is funded by the Respiratory theme of the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (Manchester BRC). The National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds BRCs as experimental medicine centres of excellence via competitive application every five years.

Manchester BRC is in the middle of a five year award to provide experimental medicine infrastructure funding across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Main duties of the job

The focus of this post will be theRapid Access Diagnostics for Asthma (RADicA) study, which explores innovative approaches to diagnosing asthma and predicting treatment response to inhaled corticosteroids in both adults and children. Based at Wythenshawe Hospital, the study utilises a wide range of established and novel tests, including advanced lung physiology and inflammometry, to provide detailed characterisation of individuals with suspected asthma. You will also work on other respiratory medicine studies.

As part of the research team, you will perform a variety of lung function and bronchial challenge tests on study participants, including both adults and children.

Responsible for delivering and interpreting a range of basic to more complex assessments of respiratory function, such as oscillometry, multiple breath washout and challenge tests to patients enrolling onto asthma clinical research studies.

Responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy and quality of the test procedures and producing accurate reports based on these procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To support the Radica study team in the delivery of an efficient clinical research study and to support other respiratory studies as needed

To collaborate with research team on all other aspects of study delivery, such as screening, recruiting and organising patient research visits

Report and collate results from research studies into databases.

Person specification


education/qualifactions

* BSc Physiological sciences, or Practitioner Training Programme, or Scientific Training Programme. RCCP/ AHCS registration


Experience

* Demonstrable experience as a Respiratory Healthcare scientist/ science practitioner.
* Presentation / teaching skills required to mentor new members of staff


Skills

* Ability to analyse and interpret complex lung function data.
* Competent in Microsoft Word and Power Point presentation software
* Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. This includes planning a broad range of complex activities
* Good organisational skills, methodical, reliable. Ability to motivate patients to perform tests to required standards
