I'm seeking a talented comic book artist to bring my storyboard to life across 27 pages. Now to start off I only want one page done so i can get a sense of your work, i will be commissioning several artists to see which one works best. I have a story is fully developed, and the panels are laid out for a first issue; I need a creative individual who can illustrate the scenes, characters, and backgrounds to enhance the narrative visually. I also have extra info and some character sheets that show them more clearly so you'd have a better understanding on how to draw them. I too am an artist and a published author, but I'm afraid i just don't have the time nor the skill to draw this comic how i want consistently. I want someone proficient enough to draw fast and yet detailed. I'm willing to pay a good price as long as Im getting good work for a good working time.
This isn't the first time I've attempted to make a comic but it is the first I plan to publish and try getting a publishing house for comics to get on shelves. If you have experience in comic art and a portfolio showcasing your work, I would love to see it. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a unique comic project and showcase your skills. Now here are some things that might make you suited for the job. The style to me is the most important thing to me. I'm a huge fan of Dave McKean and watercolor used in creative and dark ways. Now if this isn't your style, that's completely okay, don't feel discouraged. I also love scratchy art and plain black and white art too, don't be afraid that you need to fit into what ever box this story portrays, i want someone who isn't afraid to be unique, but also of course i want the work to warrent expression and show a technical understanding of illustration. To me what is the integral part of telling this story is the vibe. I was told many times when attempting to make comics each panel should feel like they tell they're own story and i believe that. The Art should feel dark and gritty, but also playful with a sense of eeriness.
What is the story? Its a comic and as such i grew up reading a lot of superhero stories. But I always thought of the idea, what if a comic nerd tried to be batman. He would surely be a failure in every regard, no one is that morally inclined and able to endure their convictions whole heartedly without either losing themselves or going against what they believe. This is a story of identity and loss of self, and the deterioration of a person trying to be hero in a world that punishes good intentions. As such it will rely on realistic themes and realistic plots. The main character sees himself as a vigilante, really, he is a mentally ill loner that wants to punish those that aggravate him and hurt others for their own selfish needs. He is a lot like the character Dexter, but not nearly as clever or smart. Instead of him going out and putting a stop to a gang in an alley, He targets specific people, learns about them, then he takes them out. But the problem is, he isn't smart, and he doesn't have batman's plot armor. He makes mistakes almost every time he goes out, and he even messes up killing his targets sometimes. It's only a matter of time until he is caught, right? That's the intrigue I want to build upon. This first issue will be slow and an introduction to the character, but the more comics written the more a story will unfold. The Arch that is going to ensue is about a terrorist organization, who is seemingly bombing random places. Our hero is gonna go from taking it out rich drunk driver's that got off to trying to uncover a murder plot like some detective. But again, he isn't very smart.
