Shift Engineers
Job Purpose
To lead the shift team of Site Engineers in optimizing engineering performance and delivering exceptional operational support. This includes reducing breakdowns, executing planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and driving continuous process improvements. The role ensures compliance with company policies, engineering standards, and safety legislation to meet production and maintenance objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical
Lead and supervise shift-based engineering operations, ensuring timely maintenance and installation activities. Drive the use of Marel PMS service kits for scheduled maintenance. Ensure compliance with GMP, health & safety, and environmental standards. Collaborate with departments such as Food Safety, Quality, Hygiene, and Health & Safety. Identify and implement energy-saving initiatives and environmental improvements. Ensure timely completion of insurance risk assessments and audits. People Management
Manage and develop the shift engineering team, including apprentices. Identify training needs and support career development. Oversee holiday planning and overtime scheduling. Foster a positive, proactive, and safety-first team culture. Financial & Compliance
Manage engineering stock and working capital effectively. Support environmental performance and manage any related complaints. Ensure internal service levels are met for equipment maintenance and improvement. Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
Multi-skilled engineer with both electrical and mechanical expertise. Level 3 qualification in Engineering or equivalent. Strong understanding of processing equipment and engineering standards. Knowledge of GMP, health & safety, and environmental impact. Proven leadership and team motivation skills. Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving abilities. Flexible and pragmatic approach to shift work. Desirable
Experience in food manufacturing, particularly chilled/frozen or short shelf-life products. Familiarity with PLC-controlled environments. Understanding of food technology and food safety principles. Hands-on leadership style with a focus on continuous improvement.
