The Governing Body at Maesgwyn Special School are seeking to appoint a passionate, committed, and inspiring PE Teacher to join our dedicated team. We welcome applications from enthusiastic practitioners from both mainstream and special school settings (primary or secondary). Experience of working with pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) is an advantage but not essential.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to teach Physical Education to our 11-19 learners with a wide and diverse range of ALN, including complex learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), moderate to severe learning difficulties, physical and sensory needs, and Behavioural, Emotional & Social Difficulties (BESD).

At KS3, pupils follow the Curriculum for Wales from progression steps 1 to 3. At KS4, the successful candidate will support the achievement of the entry pathways healthy living & fitness qualification while guiding our P16 option choice pupils through the BTEC level 1 in Sport. This is an exciting opportunity ensuring that learners are engaged, supported, and able to access accredited pathways that promote lifelong physical wellbeing and personal achievement.

This role requires a teacher who can adapt PE provision to meet a wide spectrum of needs, ensuring physical activity is accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for all. An additional role will also involve supporting older pupils with units designed to further develop their life skills and prepare them for life beyond Maesgwyn. Furthermore, in this exciting time for Curriculum for Wales development the successful candidate will play a leading role in developing the new wave of qualifications for PE and healthy living at Maesgwyn.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated PE Teacher who:

1. Is a consistently good to outstanding practitioner with a strong understanding of effective PE pedagogy.
2. Can deliver high quality, inclusive PE sessions tailored to a wide range of ALN needs.
3. Is confident in delivering, assessing, and managing externally accredited qualifications.
4. Can motivate and inspire pupils of all abilities to develop physical confidence, resilience, and enjoyment.
5. Has high expectations for engagement, progress and behaviour.
6. Understands how to modify and differentiate physical activities to ensure safety, inclusion, and participation.
7. Prioritises pupil wellbeing, modelling positive attitudes to health and physical activity.
8. Is committed to continued professional development and reflective practice.
9. Works effectively as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team.
10. Is adaptable, innovative, and willing to embrace creative approaches to PE delivery.
11. Values strong relationships and creates a safe, nurturing learning environment where all pupils feel empowered and capable.
