JOSEPH BEDONT’S LABORATORY ( HTTPS://WWW.KENT.EDU/BIOLOGY/JOE-BEDONT ) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES. Additional Basic Function – if applicable: OUR RESEARCH FOCUSES ON HOW BEHAVIORAL HOMEOSTATS (ESPECIALLY SLEEP) AND CIRCADIAN RHYTHMS INTERACT WITH METABOLISM IN HEALTH AND DISEASE. THE LAB WORKS PRIMARILY IN THE FRUIT FLY AND TO A LESSER EXTENT MOUSE MODEL ORGANISMS, UTILIZING BLENDED GENETIC, BEHAVIORAL, HISTOLOGICAL, AND BIOCHEMICAL TOOLKITS TO INTERROGATE TOPICS OF INTEREST. Examples of Duties: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: DUTIES WILL INCLUDE FLY PUSHING (ASSESSING GENOTYPE AND MATING STATUS BY PHENOTYPE, CROSSING OF ALLELES, COLLECTION OF EXPERIMENTAL FLIES), PREPARING FLY FOOD FOR EXPERIMENTS, MAINTENANCE OF MICE COLONIES.
