Job overview
Exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded team. Consultant Obstetrician post with an interest in Safeguarding. You will be part of a team of 32 Consultants. The unit was rated as Good by the CQC in March 2025.
The post-holder will provide a full range of obstetric skills – managing the Labour Ward, Antenatal clinics, Section Lists and Maternity Assessment Unit in collaboration with existing consultants and within the multidisciplinary team. The post-holder will also deliver a weekly Fetal Medicine list.
All consultants are contributing equally across the fetal medicine, fetal growth, preterm birth and rainbow clinics. FM scan lists will be delivered to the Shrewsbury and Telford population at Princess Royal Hospital once a week.
There are regular local & West Midlands regional meetings, MDT with the cardiology team. The post-holder must have an ATSM/SITM in Fetal Medicine/Prenatal Diagnosis & Advanced Labour ward or equivalent.
The applicant will participate in the trust leadership programmes & scan training of the Resident doctor tier. Opportunities exist to grow into leading a service with adequate support.
Clinical duties will be across the Royal Stoke & County Hospital sites. On‑call is 1:16 weekday & 1:7.7 weekend obstetric on‑call (weekends are split to align presence & on‑call on a Friday & Sunday sequence, followed by a Saturday sequence).
Main duties of the job
* Provide full obstetric skills across Labour Ward, Antenatal clinics, Section Lists and Maternity Assessment Unit.
* Deliver two sessions per week of Fetal Medicine scanning.
* Contribute to the fetal medicine, fetal growth, preterm birth and rainbow clinics.
* Support FM scan lists for Shrewsbury and Telford population at Princess Royal Hospital one day per week.
* Participate in MDT meetings, local & regional meetings.

The dedicated Women’s Health Centre located at the County Site houses a Midwife Birth Centre, Ante‑Natal, Post‑Natal and gynaecological clinics as well as a diagnostic ambulatory unit.
Gynaecology inpatients at RSUH are managed on a female Gynaecology and Urology ward with the majority of patients seen as outpatients in the Surgical Clinic within the main hospital.

Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification – CCT or equivalent
* ATSM/SITM – advanced Labour ward / High risk antenatal
* ATSM/SITM Fetal Medicine/Prenatal Diagnosis or equivalent
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of date of the AAC
* Safeguarding level 3 or above
