Description Location: Council Offices, Almada Street, Hamilton, ML3 0AA Hours: 35 hours per week Work Pattern: Monday - Friday Salary: £50,878 - £55,659 South Lanarkshire Council is one of the largest local authorities in Scotland which covers a diverse range of communities. The area stretches from the central belt all the way to the rural communities of the Leadhills. The Council’s Planning & Regulatory Services has a key role to play in the successful regeneration of the area and the Council has started preparation of its next Local Development Plan at a time of significant transformation in the planning system, which includes the adoption by the Scottish Government of National Planning Framework 4. The Planning Service is seeking an enthusiastic team leader within a Development Management Area Team to deliver an efficient and effective planning service in an area that covers both urban and rural communities. Significant improvements have been made to the service and the role would provide an opportunity to shape further service improvements. The post involves managing a team of professional officers who deal with both planning applications and enforcement. You should have significant experience in dealing with development management related tasks, including planning applications, report writing, enforcement and mentoring. It is important to be able to work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders by building good relationships to ensure the delivery of the development management service. You should demonstrate excellent leadership and coaching skills. Customer focus and the ability to evidence experience in contributing to the delivery of solutions in line with business objectives are also key requirements for the post. The Team Leader is heavily involved in the processing of planning, advertisement, listed building, mineral, waste disposal and other statutory applications and issuing decision notices on behalf of the Council; leading, preparing and presenting the Council’s case at Planning Local Review Body, Appeals, Hearings and Public Inquiries; managing the Council’s planning enforcement function. You would also be involved in assisting in the co-ordination, preparation, and presentation of reports to the Planning Committee and, where appropriate, to other Resource Committees. You would be required to work with the Executive Director, Head of Planning and Regulatory Services and Area Manager to achieve effective performance through work and performance monitoring/assessment, setting performance targets and conducting regular Employee Development interviews. To meet regularly with the Area Manager to review work progress, performance standards and targets, and to appraise the Area Manager of current issues.
