Specialist Nurse for Looked After Children

We are currently recruiting a Band 6 Specialist Nurse Cared for children's Nurse, based within the Trafford Cared for Children Health Team. The post is for 30 hours.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, committed, and experienced nurse with safeguarding and/or 'Cared for Children' experience to join our team.

The role includes meeting the health needs of cared for children /young people including vulnerable groups where there are complex safeguarding concerns. You will work with individuals and/or groups who are unaccompanied asylum-seeking children/young people.

You will need excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and experience of managing a caseload. Be adaptable to working under pressure and be able to prioritise and work flexibly often to tight a deadline. You will be well supported to further your own professional knowledge, skills and development within this highly specialised area.

In addition, you will be given the opportunity to receive safeguarding/ cared for children development, supervision, and training within a highly motivated and committed team. An annual appraisal, regular management one to one reviews and mandatory training are also provided, as is the chance to attend/complete other training pertinent to the role.

Main duties of the job

QUALIFICATIONS,KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Registered Nurse

Significant experience of working with young people in ahealth care or educational setting

Knowledge of child development and health needs of teenagers and young people.

Excellent knowledge of issues pertinent to CFC/Young People

Evidence of direct work with Cared For Children /Young People

Experience and contribution to single and multi-disciplinary audit processes

Evidence of multi-agency working

Evidence of recent relevant Continual Professional Development

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES

Excellent communication skills and ability to provide effective written and verbal reports

Strong analytical skills

Evidence of effective organisational skills and ability to prioritise while working to a deadline

Evidence of current knowledge of local and national policies relating to cared for children /Looked After Children and relevant professional and NHS policy initiatives

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to communicate well with young people

Confidence to challenge appropriately in difficult situations

Qualifications

* Registered Nurse
* Family planning / Sexual Health qualification
* Appropriate leadership courses
