Resource Planning Specialist, Actuarial & Consulting
As part of our Actuarial & Consulting management team, you will be responsible for mobilising our talent across Isio’s client projects, ensuring efficient resource allocation so that workload demands are balanced and skills are used to optimum effect, both for our clients and our 500+ people.
You will use utilisation trends data to identify capacity within our business and create a resource planning process to enhance our ability to meet client deadlines and needs.
This role will balance strategic planning with day-to-day operational demands, ensuring the right people are deployed to the right projects at the right time. Your work will directly contribute to client satisfaction, employee well-being, and the achievement of Isio’s growth objectives.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Resource Allocation
* Forecast and proactively manage staffing needs across ongoing clients and projects, ensuring alignment with specialisms and deadlines.
* Match team skills/experience to client requirements, balancing workload across junior/senior colleagues to prevent burnout and underutilisation, prioritising employee well-being
* Collaborate with project managers and local leadership teams to address resourcing or specialist capability gaps (e.g. using contractors, upskilling staff, secondments) and resolve conflicts in resource demands.
* Review existing resource allocation tools, identify and implement areas of improvement
1. Capacity Planning
* Monitor utilisation rates and identify bottlenecks in high-demand areas and identify areas of capacity (e.g. across grade group, location or specialism).
* Collaborate with department heads (e.g. HR, Finance, local leadership, proposition leads) to forecast staffing needs
* Develop scenario-based staffing models to support business growth or market volatility.
2. Data-Driven Insights
* Analyse historical project data to predict future resourcing trends.
* Monitor resource utilisation metrics, providing insights to senior leadership.
* Use tools, such as Power BI, to visualise workforce metrics, trends, risks and opportunities for operational effectiveness.
* Stay updated on industry best practices and integrate innovative solutions and tools to ensure operational effectiveness (e.g. ERP systems, scheduling software)
3. Stakeholder Engagement
* Advise senior leadership on long-term resourcing strategy (e.g. hiring pipelines, niche skill development) and forecast staffing needs.
* Work with Operations Director to identify trends within the Actuarial & Consulting practice and recommend areas for continual process improvements.
* Work with local leadership teams to ensure current and future work demands are understood and resource plans are in place as required.
* Partner with HR to align recruitment needs with capability specialisms (e.g. scheme actuary, consulting, project management, technical analysts, insurance specialists).
4. Compliance & Governance
* Ensure resource plans meet regulatory requirements (e.g. regulatory guidelines, client SLAs).
* Maintain audit trails for resource decisions.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
* Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
* Previous experience in resource management, preferably in professional services or consulting.
* Proficiency in Microsoft software included but not limited to Excel, PowerBI.
* Strong analytical skills
* A proactive ‘can-do’ attitude, ability to work in a team but also make tough choices and be directional, and prepared to engage in difficult conversations to find solutions.
Desirable
* Experience in workforce planning tools and knowledge of Agile methodologies or project management frameworks.
* Experience of working in the employee benefits industry (e.g. Actuarial firm)
* Familiarity with Isio’s core sectors (e.g. defined benefit pensions, employee benefits, investment advisory, wealth management).
* Experience with AI-driven resource optimisation tools
