Quality Control Inspector – Machine Shop
Permanent position, preferred location: Havant.
What you will be doing
The machine shop operates across five cells producing seals and bearings for the marine sector and various navies around the globe.
Product inspection
Responsible for inspecting components at various stages through the production process, including final inspection.
* Raise non‑conformances in accordance with the non‑conformance process.
* Perform extra duties or special projects when requested.
* Read and interpret technical drawings and related documentation such as purchase orders and concessions.
* Communicate effectively with the Quality Assurance department and/or management regarding quality control issues.
* Inspect as per current procedure and specification and release parts to stores, assembly and packaging areas.
* Collate and record traceability details to assist QA with MDR quality packs and class visits.
* Apply problem‑solving techniques to support root‑cause analysis and investigations.
Flexibility is key for this position with a wide variety of duties to be carried out safely and accurately, working toward our OTIF (On Time In Full) target.
Capable of carrying out tasks individually as well as working effectively as part of the logistics team.
Maintain a safe working environment and high standard of housekeeping.
Responsibilities
* Possess general knowledge of quality system regulations and international standards.
* Utilize inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges to verify dimensions and specifications.
* Work closely with quality control inspectors, project engineering, quality engineering and manufacturing to ensure compliance with process work documents.
* Ensure in‑process inspections are completed per engineering specifications during production.
* Perform mechanical, visual and dimensional inspections of parts using hand tools.
* Potentially perform CMM programming and inspection if trained or experienced.
* Communicate with supply quality assurance engineer on quality issues.
* Attach correct labeling to outside storage cartons/pallets; store product in warehouse and adjust inventory in the system.
* Derive measurements from engineering drawings for visual dimensional inspection of purchased or manufactured products.
* Execute any other duties as required.
* Communicate with all operational teams to ensure proactive actions meet OTIF.
* Drive continuous improvement of processes and procedures.
* Perform all duties safely following health and safety procedures.
Qualifications
* Mechanical and electrical component inspection experience.
* Basic mechanical inspection tools and dimensional hand tools.
* FDA, GMP, ISO 13485 knowledge.
* Experience in a production or engineering environment is essential.
* Understanding of health and safety environment and procedures.
* Mechanical/assembly aptitude; ability to read and understand drawings.
* Minimum five years of mechanical inspection experience desirable.
* Effective communication skills with co‑workers.
* Flexibility to work across logistics operations teams.
* Ideally educated to college standard, mechanical apprenticeship or solid experience in manufacturing.
* Proficiency with industry standard computer packages (e.g., Microsoft Office, MRP systems).
* Good knowledge and understanding of SAP.
