Youth Offending Service Health Nurse

This is your chance to take on a brand-new role in an established, respected team.

We're looking for an experienced and passionate NMC registered professional to join us at a pivotal moment - launching a new position dedicated to supporting some of the most vulnerable young people in our community.

You'll play a key role in identifying and addressing health needs for children and young people who are involved in the Youth Justice system and/or are Children in Care, helping them overcome barriers and improve life outcomes. If you're motivated by meaningful work and enjoy working in a multi-agency, people-focused environment - this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Main duties of the job

What makes this role interesting?

You will provide health assessments as appropriate, with onward referral as required to a range of services, in order that young people may take full advantage of their life chances.

You will contribute to the delivery of the full range of services for children, young people, their families and victims within the remit of the Youth Offending Service including representing the service in legal proceedings

You will take on a new role in a well-established and respected team, embedding health expertise directly within Youth Justice.

You will make a positive impact on young lives, contributing to real change.

Job responsibilities

To lead on assessing the physical health needs of all children and young people who come into contact with the Youth Offending Service as well as being placed as a child in care.

To develop and work with appropriate assessment and screening tools applicable to the health needs of young people who offend, focusing on physical needs and highlighting gaps in health care provision to inform service developments.

To contribute to individual care plans to meet the needs of the young person which may contribute to a programme to address offending behaviour.

To support young people, families and carers with health issues and emotional and behavioural problems identified from the assessment.

To act as an advocate to the young people and support their decision making.

To support the delivery of group work programmes with young people relating to issues associated with physical health and well-being issues. Communication

To promote effective communication links between all agencies by working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment.

To work in partnership with other members of the Youth Offending Service (YOS) and in particular the relevant YOS Case Manager who is responsible for the coordination of all services to the young person and their family.

To work with the Children in Care Service, to support the statutory requirements for annual health assessments for those also placed as children in care.

To liaise on an inter/intra agency basis with other professionals in order provide an integrated package of care for the young person linking closely with universal and targeted services as appropriate.

The post-holder would be required to attend forums and conferences as requested by the YOS in order to share good practice and improve knowledge.

To attend multi-agency meetings on behalf on the YOS/0-19 Service as required.

The post holder will be expected at times to work flexible hours in line with the needs of the service Key Relationships

Qualifications and Training


* Current NMC registration
* Relevant Post Registration qualification/experience
* Evidence of continuous professional development
