Summary:
The Passenger Assistant (PA) provides essential support to ensure the safe and comfortable transport of children and young people, many with additional needs (medical or behavioural), to and from school or college. The role involves accompanying students on minibuses or taxis, ensuring their safety and wellbeing throughout the journey, and assisting drivers in maintaining an efficient and caring transport service.
This is a relief position, providing cover for regular Passenger Assistants who are unable to work. Work assignments may be arranged at short notice and vary in duration. The role offers rewarding and meaningful experiences supporting children and young people across Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall.
Responsibilities:
* Accompany children and young people, including those with additional needs, on home-to-school and college transport services.
* Maintain awareness of each childs individual needs, medical conditions, or behavioural challenges, and respond appropriately to ensure their safety.
* Follow all safeguarding, health & safety, and equality and diversity policies and procedures.
* Represent Plymouth City Council in a professional and caring manner at all times.
* Assist students in boarding and leaving vehicles safely, including the use of appropriate restraint systems and mobility equipment where necessary.
Essentials:
* Willingness to complete all required training, including safeguarding, first aid, and passenger assistance induction.
* Previous experience working with children, young people, or individuals with additional needs (e.g. in education, care, or community settings).
* Knowledge of safe handling and use of mobility aids and restraint systems.
* Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection responsibilities.
